How to print your puzzle booklet
- Choose a difficulty. Easy sheets (45–50 clues) suit beginners and kids; medium (35–40 clues) is the classic newspaper level; hard (25–30 clues) will occupy a seasoned solver for a whole commute.
- Pick a layout. One large puzzle per page is easiest on the eyes, two is a nice balance, and four per page makes a compact booklet that saves paper.
- Personalise the header — a family tournament title, a classroom name, or the default. It's printed at the top of every sheet.
- Keep "Include Answer Keys" ticked if you want solutions printed on separate pages at the end — handy for checking without spoiling the puzzle page itself.
- Hit the print button. Your browser's print dialog opens with clean, ink-friendly black-and-white sheets — no dark backgrounds, no ads, just the grids.
Why solve Sudoku on paper?
Screens are great for quick sessions — our own online Sudoku exists for exactly that. But paper has real advantages: pencil marks are faster and more flexible than any app's notation, there are no notifications to break your focus, and studies of reading and problem-solving consistently find people work more deliberately on paper. It's also the only format that works at the beach, on a plane in airplane mode, or for a grandparent who wants nothing to do with smartphones. We wrote a whole piece on the trade-offs in Paper vs. Digital Puzzles.
Teachers and activity coordinators: print freely. Our terms allow unlimited personal and classroom use — the only thing we ask is that you don't sell the sheets.
Printable Sudoku FAQ
Are the printed puzzles always solvable?
Yes. Every puzzle starts from a complete valid grid generated by our engine, and clues are removed from it — so a logical solution always exists, and it's printed in the answer key if you keep that option on.
How many sheets can I generate?
As many as you like — click "Regenerate Grids" for a fresh set any time. The generator runs entirely in your browser, so there are no limits, accounts, or fees.
Can I save the puzzles as a PDF instead of printing?
Yes — in the print dialog, choose "Save as PDF" as the destination. You'll get a clean PDF booklet you can store, email, or print later.
The grids look dark in the preview — will they waste ink?
No. The dark preview is just the website's theme. The actual print layout switches to pure black-on-white with thin grid lines — about as ink-friendly as a page can get.
